"Working together to facilitate respite options that empower individuals with differing abilities and their families to lead active and rewarding lives."

Vision

"Creating Community Connections."

Respiteservices.com is a secure network for families that need respite and access to services. This network is managed and hosted by Service Coordination Support (SCS) for People with Developmental Disabilities located in Ottawa which is an agency funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services and the Ministry of Children and Youth Services.

Respiteservices.com
incorporates a Worker Bank that provides workers to families who are in need of respite and /or developmental programming for their child with a physical or developmental disability, as well as for an adult with a developmental disability.

The guiding principles of respiteservices.com are:

  1. To develop a comprehensive respite system in Ottawa.
  2. To develop and maintain a coherent access process for families of children and adults requiring respite or support options.
  3. To facilitate respite/support options for individuals that match their identified needs.
  4. To work closely with service providers to advocate for appropriate service options to meet the needs identified.

Through respiteservices.com families can:

  • Find respite providers in the Ottawa Region

  • Get information regarding the Developmental Disability network in Ottawa
  • Contact Service Coordination Support for People with Developmental Disabilities for intake, registration and referrals

Please Note: The following services assist with connecting families/individuals with local support providers who wish to advertise their services on our site.  It is the responsibility of the family/individual seeking the service of these providers to pay the fees and provide additional training to ensure the support given is personalized to the needs of the individual.  It is the responsibility of the family/individual to interview, select, negotiate wage, hours and support details with the worker.  Workers are not employees of respiteservices.com or Service Coordination Support.  In addition, it is the responsibility of the family and the worker to determine if they are entering an employer/employee relationship or a contracted service arrangement.

Respite care is a family support service that provides temporary relief from the physical and emotional demands involved in caring for a family member who has a disability. Respite creates greater opportunities for all family members to live actively, participate in community activities and also provide time for themselves for renewal.

Worker Bank Coordinator
The Worker Bank Coordinator in Ottawa will assist families to develop creative respite options for individuals, to identify the current resources and needs within the system, and to act as a respite information resource to agencies supporting families.  Short-term coordination will be provided in order to overcome barriers to respite for individuals requiring support.
