respiteservices.com is comprised of agencies funded by the Ministry of Community and Social Services and the Ministry of Children and Youth Services. In Peel Region, a committee comprised of respite providers, representatives from the Special Services at Home and the Ministry of Community and Social Services are working collaboratively to develop a more comprehensive respite service. The Peel Planning Group provides leadership in the systemic and strategic evolution of developmental services in the Region of Peel. Comprised of representatives from a range of community based service providers in the Region, it has an established track record serving an advisory function to the Central West Region Office of the Ministry of Community and Social Services and the Ministry of Children and Youth Services. In addition to representation from the developmental service sector, the group includes representation from the child welfare and mental health sectors. Peel Planning Group has several sub-committees and work groups in the Peel Respite Community.
Respite care is a family support service that promotes active living and provides temporary relief from the physical and emotional demands involved in caring for a family member who has a disability*. Respite creates greater opportunities for all family members to live actively and participate in community activities and allows parents/guardians time for themselves.
Respite Access Facilitator
The Respite Access Facilitator for Peel Region is Riva MacNeil. Riva works with agencies to develop creative respite options for individuals, to identify the current resources and needs within the system, and to act as a respite information resource to agencies supporting families.

The Respite Administrative Support Worker . Hanan assists Riva to help families explore respite options for individuals, to identify the current resources and needs within the system, and to act as a respite information resource to agencies supporting families.
CHAP Program
The CHAP (Community Helpers for Active Participation) Program is an integral part of respiteservices.com. The CHAP Program aims to recruit a large base of workers interested in supporting persons with a disability* to provide meaningful respite opportunities through community based options. Families are able to connect with workers to fulfill Special Services At Home contracts and agencies are able to access workers to enable individuals to participate in community based respite opportunities.
*includes children who have a developmental disability or a physical disability, and adults who have a developmental disability.
