Note: Please be sure to read all information prior to completing a registration form.
CHAP Workers promote active living for children and adults with developmental disabilities including autism and/or physical disabilities in their own home or in the community, while providing parent relief. Workers registered with the CHAP Program are connected with families looking for support and relief.
Note: Workers on the registry are not employees of the CHAP Program and are considered self-employed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide safe, stimulating and recreational support both in the home and in the community
- Provide care and supervision according to the individuals needs
- Provide respite/support services as requested by the parent/guardian
- Network with community groups, facilitate inclusion and act as a positive role model
- Maintain communication with the Respite Resource Coordinator
Requirements:
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Ability and willingness to work with persons with disabilities
- Effective communication skills with both verbal and non-verbal populations
- Commitment to providing quality life experiences in home and in the community
- Experience providing care and support to persons with disabilities is an asset
- First Aid and CPR is an asset
Contracts:
- Variable hours (days, evenings, weekends, overnights, relief, summer)
- Part-time (possibility of additional hours)
How to Become a CHAP Worker:
- Submit your resume and complete an application form (see below)
- Attend an interview (scheduled by the Information Systems Administrator)
- Provide 3 references (at least 1 must be professional, the other 2 can be personal)
- Obtain a Police Reference Check
- Complete an orientation. There are two options available; you may complete the online respite worker course (offered through Safeguards Training) or you can attend an orientation session facilitated by the Respite Resource Coordinator
NOTE: The online respite worker course is highly recommended and those choosing to take the course will be reimbursed upon completion of the above requirements.
