What is Support/Respite?

Support/Respite is an occasional and temporary service providing support to families caring for a family member with autism, a developmental and/or physical disability. Support/Respite creates greater opportunities for all family members to build an ordinary life.

Explore Support/Respite Options available for your family.  Families are invited to contact agencies directly to connect to Support/Respite Options in Durham Region.

Please note that some options may have a waiting list.

COMMUNITY HELPERS FOR ACTIVE PARTICIPATION (CHAP)
SUPPORT WORKER PROGRAM

The CHAP Program facilitates the connection of people with disabilities and registered Support Providers through a Family Registry and Support Provider Database.  Please complete a Family Registration Form to connect with a CHAP Support Provider.  If you are interested in becoming a CHAP Support Provider, please complete a Support Provider Registration and upload your resume.

CHAP Family Registration
Register for CHAP if your family wants to engage a Support Provider.  Once registered, a Family Information Package will be emailed to you.  It contains information on how to engage with Support Providers/Respite Workers.
