Respite Options in Waterloo Region
In Waterloo Region, nine developmental service agencies offer a variety of respite programs, both in-home and out-of-home. These programs serve people of varying ages with a variety of different needs and interests. Sunbeam respite provides a short-term break or rest from usual routines of caring and being cared for. At Sunbeam, we are committed to working with families to develop creative respite options that are flexible and responsive to the individual needs of all families. Applications for group home and apartment respite are directed to us initially from the Developmental Services Resource Centre (519-741-1121.) Once a client becomes part of our respite family, respite times can be booked directly with us. Seasonal respite programs are coordinated each year by the agencies in the Region offering similar services. When coming for respite, clients are expected to bring current medications, diapers, and sufficient clothing for their stay. Personal items, such as toothbrushes, toiletries, and specialized equipment, are also required. A Respite Services Brochure is available and provides more detailed information on all of the above.
