Respite Options in Waterloo Region

In Waterloo Region, nine developmental service agencies offer a variety of respite programs, both in-home and out-of-home. These programs serve people of varying ages with a variety of different needs and interests. Program Title : Crisis/Respite Residential Service
Program Time : Offered 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.
Program Runs from : Offered throughout the year.

Program Cost : No cost for consumer.
Admission Criteria : Please see "Community Respite Partner" description for Waterloo Regional Homes for Mental Health for further information regarding eligibility. Individuals must be 16 years of age or older.

Activities : The crisis component provides support in meeting basic needs during times of crisis; linkages to supports and resources to address immediate crisis needs; and assistance to initiate a crisis/recovery support plan or review an existing plan.

The planned respite stay component provides help for individuals in the form of relief from daily responsibility and associated stresses, and help for family members in the form of relief from their day-to-day care giving responsibilities.
Comments : Regular communication between individuals in respite, existing supports and respite staff are essential to successful crisis resolution.

Individuals who are not well connected to their community will be provided with an opportunity to identify and link with relevant supports and resources to address their future needs.

PLEASE NOTE: Consumers using this service must be able to navigate stairs. (There are 15 steps to the home's bedroom level.)
