Description of Individual : Our son is 24 years old and has autism. He is a lot of fun, and has a great sense of humour. Everyone who meets him is charmed by his sweet disposition and sense of humour. He does not have any issues with aggression, or bad behaviors.
Worker's Role : Will need a driver's license and vehicle, with a good sense of humour and basic CPR training, as well as police check. Need someone full time weekdays from 8am to 11:00am who would do light housekeeping/help, with a break in the middle of the day, and then to pick him up here in Newmarket at 3:00 and work until 7:00, Monday through Friday.
Availability : We would also like someone who could assist us with the odd evening out or weekend day. We're looking for someone who will care for our family, and fit well with our lifestyle. Someone to assist him to discover new interests, facilitate friendships and develop social skills. His parents are fine with him connecting with Barrie and/or Newmarket activities but the CHAP will need to provide the transportation to activities. It would be helpful if this CHAP would assist in looking into places that their son may like to go for recreation.
Worker's Role : CHAP needs to have experience with Autism and have excellent de-escalation skills. Also, participate in working on a goal of self-regulation. CHAP will be meeting with an Autism Consultant for training and planning for support. This youth has demonstrated some aggressive behaviour and language. Primarily it is towards his parents or self.
