A Note on COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) For Families/Caregivers and CHAP
With the rapidly changing news around the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the constantly evolving updates around how Canada’s public health agencies are responding to — and sharing updates about — the outbreak, we wanted to update you as caregivers/families and CHAP who access respite/direct supports through our Simcoe supportyourway.ca site.
While information about COVID-19 is changing every day we are acting with an abundance of caution to keep everyone safe. We urge you to follow the advice of the Province’s Chief Medical Officer found on this link
https://covid-19.ontario.ca/public-health-measures#covid-19-zones to keep yourself, your family members and the CHAP registered with this program, healthy and safe. Whether you are a CHAP working in households or the community, or a family/primary caregiver who has relied on direct support workers, this will prove a challenging time, requiring constant work to strike a balance between respite/direct support needs and the realities and risks that come with this outbreak. CHAP profiles will continue to be shared with families.
We advise you to use extreme caution if you choose to bring someone into your household or in contact with your family during the pandemic period. We recommend you follow the government health provisions and strongly encourage correspondence using phone, email or virtual options. If in-person support is required, we recommend you follow all government health recommendations for employers and employees.
